About the company

We're an Australian-born wellbeing platform that transforms disconnected corporate wellness spending into verified engagement with measurable impact on health, productivity, and the planet.

Unlike traditional wellness solutions, our platform unites wellbeing, movement, and environmental impact in one experience. Employees earn real rewards for positive daily actions — walking, cycling, or taking public transport — while organisations gain verified data on engagement, wellbeing outcomes, and CO₂ reduction.

About the job

Seeking an experienced Senior Java Engineer to architect, develop, and maintain robust, scalable microservices using Spring Boot for deployment on AWS. The role includes leading a small offshore development team while driving best practices in event-driven architecture and cloud-native design.

This is a contract role (40h per week) for 3 months minimum, with opportunity to convert to a permanent role.

  • Design, develop, and optimize Java-based microservices utilizing Spring Boot within a distributed, event-driven architecture.
  • Architect, deploy, and monitor microservice solutions on AWS (including but not limited to EC2, ECS, S3, SNS, SQS, RDS, IAM, and VPC).
  • Implement, manage, and refine CI/CD pipelines (BitBucket Pipelines, Maven, etc.) ensuring seamless automated testing, deployment, and monitoring
  • Collaborate closely with product managers, stakeholders, and cross-functional teams (including front-end, QA, and DevOps).
  • Lead and mentor a small offshore development team, ensuring code quality, best practices, and timely delivery through code reviews, regular check-ins, and collaborative problem resolution.
  • Define, communicate, and document technical standards and architectural patterns across microservices.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve production issues while optimizing systems for security, performance, and scalability.
  • Promote and institute Agile and DevOps best practices within the team.

Requirements

  • 5+ years hands-on Java development, with deep experience in Spring Boot and microservice architecture
  • 2+ years deploying and managing solutions in AWS, including relevant AWS services and DevOps tools
  • Proven experience in event-driven architecture using Spring Boot & SQS/SNS, or similar technologies.
  • Experience building and managing CI/CD pipelines.
  • Solid understanding of RESTful services, security standards (OWASP), and industry best practices
  • Containerization (Docker) and orchestration (Kubernetes/ECS) experience is strongly preferred.
  • Track record leading/mentoring small, distributed teams and conducting performance/quality reviews
  • Excellent problem-solving and communication abilities (written and verbal).
  • Knowledge of SQL/NoSQL data solutions; AWS certification(s) is desirable.
