About the company

We are a VC-backed startup building AI tools that transform how chemists work - funded by Blackbird, Airtree, and Scott Farquhar's Skip Capital. We're early but moving fast, with strong traction and a clear path to scale.

We are building Chemical Intelligence. Chemistry touches nearly every aspect of our lives and the problem we're trying to solve has significant scope and magnitude and will directly affect people's lives for the better if we're successful. We are doing something that has never been done before - operating at a unique intersection of the physical and digital world.

Why? Because we believe Chemical Intelligence is the key to a better future.

From enhancing existing products to making new ones. Aiding good hygiene to addressing world hunger. Protecting our homes against the elements to protecting the sovereignty of nations.

About the job

We're hiring an ambitious Product Designer who wants to collaborate with PhD chemists and engineers on deep technical problems, and ship beautiful, intuitive products from day one. You'll work directly with the founders and a team of AI engineers and scientists to solve complex design challenges in one of the world's most important industries.

Build and ship high-quality products quickly. Push the quality and excellence bar by advocating for and practicing engineering best practices, including code reviews, testing, code quality, security, and monitoring. Understand business requirements and break them down into manageable tasks. Establish timelines, allocate resources, and oversee the progress of client application.

What you'll get

  • High ownership with no red tape, genuine startup culture
  • Accelerated pathway to ownership and responsibility - shape product direction from day one
  • Tie your career growth to the growth of the company
  • Flexible hours and remote-first work setup
  • Work with successful founders, PhD chemists and motivated engineers
  • Solve real problems in a $5T global industry affecting millions of lives
  • Learn more in 1 year than most people do in 5
  • Design products that help solve some of humanity's biggest challenges

Requirements

Responsibilities

  • Design intuitive, accessible interfaces for complex AI systems that help chemists and sales teams work more efficiently
  • Create user experiences that make sophisticated chemical data searchable, comparable, and actionable
  • Build design systems and patterns that scale across product recommendation engines, document analysis tools, and data visualisation platforms
  • Collaborate across product, engineering, and domain teams to turn research insights into real user value
  • Design responsive interfaces that work seamlessly across devices (desktop, tablet, mobile)
  • Lead user research with chemists, sales teams, and technical experts to understand complex workflows
  • Move fast, prototype extensively, and iterate based on real user feedback in production
  • Lead and push projects forward with your expertise.
  • Contribute to product marketing and company branding

Personal attributes

  • Highly motivated and intellectually curious, with a strong desire to grow quickly in a deep-tech environment
  • Comfortable with ambiguity and fast-paced environments where you'll be designing for cutting-edge AI capabilities
  • Strong sense of ownership and bias toward execution - you ship designs that make real impact
  • Excellent problem-solving and communication skills, especially when working with technical teams
  • Empathy for users dealing with complex, mission-critical workflows
  • Quick learner with a passion for understanding new domains (chemistry knowledge not required, but curiosity about it is!)
  • Open to candidates without formal degrees - demonstrated ability and portfolio matter most

Technical requirements

  • Previous experience designing software products that handle complex data or technical workflows
  • Portfolio showing proficiency in modern design tools (Figma, v0, Canva, Lovable, Bolt,  Adobe Creative Suite)
  • Understanding of design systems, component libraries, and scalable design practices
  • Experience with responsive design and cross-device user experiences
  • Understanding of how design handoffs work with engineering teams
  • (Bonus) Experience with data visualisation, enterprise software, B2B products, or technical/scientific applications
  • (Bonus) Basic understanding of web technologies, APIs, and technical constraints
